Microneedling at Mode Beauty NYC
If you're curious about microneedling but not quite sure what it involves (or whether it's right for you), you're in the right place. This page will walk you through everything you need to know-from what it is, to what results to expect, and how to get the most from your treatment series.
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a treatment that uses very fine, short needles to create microchannels in the skin. It might sound intense, but it's actually a minimally invasive way to stimulate your skin’s natural healing process and boost collagen and elastin production which help keep skin looking young and firm.
At Mode Beauty NYC, I use a professional-grade microneedling device that's designed to safely and effectively target your skin concerns with minimal downtime.
How Does It Work?
It’s all about taking advantage of your skin’s natural healing process. Those tiny, controlled punctures tell your body, “Hey, let’s heal this!” and in response, your skin produces fresh collagen, elastin, and new skin cells. Over time, this leads to:
Smoother skin texture
Firmer, tighter skin
Reduction in fine lines and wrinkles
Faded acne scars or hyperpigmentation
A more even tone and a healthy, radiant glow
Does It Hurt?
I know needles instantly bring thoughts of pain. But I promise, microneedling sounds scarier than it feels.
Before we begin, I’ll apply a numbing cream to your skin to keep you comfortable. Most clients describe the sensation as a little pressure or vibration, not pain.
You’ll feel some sensation but not pain. If you ever need a moment or want to check in, I’ve got you.
Are There Any Risks?
Like with any skin treatment, there are a few things to keep in mind. Microneedling is safe when performed by a trained professional, but you may experience:
Redness (think: mild sunburn look and feel)
Slight swelling or sensitivity
Dryness or flaking in the days that follow
In rare cases: pinpoint bleeding, breakouts, or post-inflammatory pigmentation (we’ll discuss how to minimize all of this during your consultation)
If you're pregnant, on Accutane, or have active acne or certain skin conditions, this may not be the right treatment for you right now but we can always build a custom plan to get you there.
Is There Downtime?
Microneedling has minimal downtime, but you’ll want to treat your skin gently for about 5–7 days post-treatment. That means:
No makeup for 24 hours
No sweating, hot showers, or workouts for 48 hours
Avoid exfoliants and active ingredients for 5–7 days
Prioritize hydration, SPF, and barrier repair
You can absolutely resume work, errands, and life. It’s not a “hide at home” situation. Most clients feel comfortable going out within a day or two.
How to Prep for Your Appointment
To get the best results and avoid irritation, here’s how to prep:
Pause any retinoids, exfoliants, or acids 3–5 days before
No sun exposure or self-tanner pre-treatment
Avoid alcohol 24 hours before
Let me know if you're prone to cold sores (we may need to pre-treat)
What to Expect After Treatment
The first 24–48 hours:
Your skin may feel warm, tight, and a little flushed, similar to a light sunburn. You might notice some pinpoint scabbing or flaking as your skin starts to heal. This is normal.
By day 3–5:
You'll likely see some dryness or peeling. Keep your skin super hydrated and protected (no exfoliating or sweating it out in hot yoga just yet).
By day 6–7:
You're glowing. This is when the magic starts to show—but keep in mind, collagen production continues for months.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
Microneedling works best in a series. One treatment is great but a series of 4 to 6 sessions spaced about 4 weeks apart is recommended. That’s where the real transformation happens!
Ready to Try It?
Microneedling is a client favorite for a reason: real results, no needles, no filters. Whether you're looking to smooth texture, fade past breakouts, or just glow a little brighter, I’d love to chat and see if it's a fit for you.
